Saint Nick Secondline today at the French Market

It's a big weekend for the kids at the French Market Saint Nicholas Day Fair, as Santa will be brought to the French Market, N'awlins style, Saturday with a secondline led by The New Wave Brass Band.

Scott Loyed, who provides the petting zoo every year says there will also be live music inside the Jazz Park, and at the Dutch Alley Performance Pavilion (in between Cafe Du Monde and the French Market) there will be local children's authors, musicians, and artists making items with kids to take home for free.

"And we'll have a miniature horse with the Santa sleigh.  Kids can come in and pet the animals, they can sit in the sleigh and have their photographs taken," says Loyed.  "It's all free.  All the kids have a great time, but the adults probably have more fun than the kids!"

Saint Nicholas will join in the secondline, dancing his way into Dutch Alley, where he will take his spot in a large red chair surrounded by Christmas trees, and be ready to take wishes and photos.  He will also be strolling up and down Dutch Alley, interacting with families throughout the day.

Loyed says he'll have three miniature horses at the fair, "Including Munchkin, who is literally the smallest horse in the world."

Plus Loyed says there will be facepainters, balloon artists, and plenty of wonderful shopping, dining and decorations. A petting zoo, local children's authors, musicians, and artists round out the day of holiday fun.

If you want to secondline, bring your Santa hat and get to Washington Artillery Park, across from Jackson Square before 11am.

Most of the events are free.
