LSU hoops rallies from 16 down to beat Seton Hall, stay undefeated

How It Happened:

LSU Tigers shot poorly in the first half and were down 35-27 at halftime. Seton Hall opened up a 16-point lead early in the 2nd half, but the Tigers rallied thanks to pressure defense and Shavon Coleman, who scored a team-high 18 points to help the Tigers defeat the Pirates 72-67.

Most Valuable Tigers:

Forward Shavon Coleman scored 14 of his 18 points in the 2nd half. He was 8-of-14 from the field, also had six rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots. Coleman came into the game as the Tigers leading scorer at 17 points per game, even though he has started only once. This Thibodaux native continues to amaze.

Johnny O’Bryant also registered his second straight double-double, with 13 points and 11 rebounds. He also played some nice defense down the stretch.

Turning Point:

Andre Stringer hit a jumper with 16:35 left in the game to pull the Tigers within 14. Coach Johnny Jones called a timeout and told the team they were going to press the rest of the game. It was the first time LSU showed pressure defense and Seton Hall wasn’t ready.

Stat of the Night: Seton Hall turned it over 26 times.

What It Means:

LSU is now 5-and-0. The best start since the 2008-09 season. The victory was their most impressive and it will raise some eyebrows among the LSU fan base, who will soon turn their attention to the basketball team.

Up Next:

The Tigers do not play again for another 11 days because of final exams. LSU will host Chattanooga on December 11th. It’s the final contest of a six-game homestand to open the season.
