Bayou Classic Thanksgiving parade features some of the best bands

New Orleans gets in on the Thanksgiving Parade action today, as it celebrates the 39th Bayou Classic this weekend.

The parade is a new tradition, only a year old, but organizer Dottie Belletto has lofty ambitions.

"We are going to rival Macy's...parade someday," she told the New Orleans City Council earlier this month.  This parade features 40 units, and Belletto says music is a a big part of it.

"We have the best marching bands throughout the state of Louisiana," she said.  "We...have the great Grambling University band and we will have Southern.  They do not march in many parades.  This is very unique, but they are out there and they're going to give a show that you haven't seen before."

The starts at 3:30 p.m. at the Superdome, rolls down Poydras St. to O'Keefe Ave., then to Canal St.  From there it's down to North Peters St. and then ends on Decatur St. at the French Market.
