The Bulldogs of Louisiana Tech are still fighting for a possible BCS bowl. If Tech finishes in the top 16 and ranked higher than the champion of one of the big 6 conferences, they will get an automatic invite. The Bulldogs continue their quest against the 8 and 2 Utah State Aggies at 3pm. Quarterback Colby Cameron is the only starting FBS quarterback who hasn’t thrown an interception this season, and he has gone an NCAA record 419 passes without one. A win over the Aggies would leave Tech as the only team undefeated in WAC play.
Louisiana-Monroe also gets their last home game saturday afternoon at 4 o’clock against the North Texas Mean Green. While the Warhawks’ chances at a Sun Belt title are remote, they just need one more win to ensure their first winning season since joining the FBS back in 1994.
The Tulane Green Wave will attempt to drown the East Carolina Pirates in their last game in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome this season. Tulane fell to Memphis last Saturday 23 to 37 while ECU shellacked Houston. Head Coach Curtis Johnson’s first season has been bumpy, as the Green Wave are just 2 and 8 overall.
ULL almost pulled off one of the upsets of the year last weekend when they were just 7 points away from taking down 6th ranked Florida in the Swamp. The Ragin’ Cajuns will have to regroup as Western Kentucky comes to town at 7 o’clock. ULL still has a slight shot at the Sun Belt title but would need some help even if they win out. Coach Mark Hudspeth and the ULL offense will be up against a solid Hilltopper defense.
Grambling State gets a bye this week in preparation for the Bayou Classic on the 24th. The Tigers lost to Arkansas-Pine Bluff last Saturday by a touchdown and fell to 1 and 9. Coach Doug Williams knows his team has to use this bye week to regroup and ready for Southern.
Southern also is off Saturday to get ready for the big match-up against Grambling. The Jaguars have dropped 4 in a row, but their last two have both been by a single point.
Northwestern State closes out their season on the road against the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks. Both teams are sitting at 4 and 6, so they cannot finish with a winning record, but a victory would let them end their year on a high note.
Nicholls State and Southeastern played on Thursday night, with the Lions taking down the Colonels 35 to 16. Nicholls has one more match-up, making up a game against Oregon State that was canceled because of Hurricane Isaac. Unless the Colonels can pull of a major upset, they are looking at a second straight 1-win season. Thursday’s game was Southeastern’s last of the year. The Lions ended on a 2-game winning streak and finished with a 5 and 6 overall record. Southeastern went 5 and 2 in Southland conference play.
The Cowboys of McNeese State tried to rally late against the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners last week but couldn’t overcome their large deficit. McNeese kicks off at 7 o’clock Saturday in their last game of the season against the Lamar Cardinals. With a victory, the Cowboys would finish with a winning record for the first time since 2009.
