UPDATE: Earlier this morning, Petty Officer Johnathan Lally said the owner of the platform confirms two deaths in the explosion and fire. However, a Coast Guard official now says they have no confirmed deaths in the indicent.
According to officials, the oil and gas platform is located 20 miles south of Grand Isle, owned by Houston-based Black Elk Energy.
At least four workers were been taken from the platform by medivac and two workers are believed missing.
Coast Guard Captain Peter Gautier says 28 people were believed to be aboard the facility at the time. Gautier says the platform was not in active production.
Black Elk is an independent oil and gas company headquartered in Houston, Texas. A spokesman for Black Elk Energy could not immediately be reached for comment.
