Should Jindal have spoken up about GOP flaws sooner?

The Republican Party must "stop being the stupid party." That's one of the things Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal says must happen if the GOP is ever to return to the White House.

What did Jindal mean by "stupid party" in his interview with Politico? There is the example from the campaign in which Republican congressman and candidate for U.S. Senate Todd Akin said women couldn't get pregnant in cases of "legitimate rape." University of Louisiana political analyst Joshua Stockley says Jindal's comments probably should have come before the Election Day.

"If he has a problem with this, why didn't he come out earlier and say, 'I'm no longer endorsing you for the Senate?'" asks Stockley.

The national Republican party did stop funding Akin's campaign after he made those comments about rape.

"The skeptic or the critic or the pessimist might say, 'well perhaps he's just saying this to sound good because he wants to be the president in 2016 so he's already started his campaign for the presidency,'" Stockley points out.

Stockley says it sounds like Jindal is positioning himself for a 2016 campaign when Barack Obama is term-limited out of office.

In the interview, Jindal also said the Republicans need to alter the image of the GOP being the party that protects the interests of the wealthy.

Stockley says Jindal's own record in Louisiana here could be used against him if that becomes part of a future campaign.

"While he has been governor, one of the things that is on his record are the corporate tax exemptions that's occurred in this state to what?  Big businesses, big banks, corporations," said Stockley.
