With two weeks left in the regular season, the top two teams in the SEC remain on a collision course. First, however, Bama and the Bulldogs face far lesser opponents. Here is how I see the teams stacking up in Southeastern Conference football:
1. Alabama 9-1 (1)
This Week: Western Carolina
Last Week: Lost to Texas A&M 29-24
Alabama's once vaunted defense allowed LSU and Texas A&M combine for 853 yards and convert 21 of 38 third-down opportunities.
2. Georgia 9-1 (2)
This Week: Georgia Southern
Last Week: Beat Auburn 38-0
Bulldogs scheduled smart. They finish the regular season next week against Georgia Tech, who runs the triple-option. Georgia Southern also runs the triple-option.
3. LSU 8-2 (4)
This Week: Ole Miss
Last Week: Beat Mississippi State 37-17
LSU has gone 46 straight possessions without a turnover. That streak dates back to the second quarter against South Carolina.
4. Texas A&M 8-2 (5)
This Week: Sam Houston State
Last Week: Beat Alabama 29-24
Heisman hopeful Johnny Manziel is 34 yards away from breaking the NCAA freshman record of total offensive yards for a season. Former Kentucky QB Jared Lorenzen holds the record with 3,827 yards in 2000.
5. Florida 9-1 (3)
This Week: Jacksonville State
Last Week: Beat ULL 27-20
Florida has the most wins against teams ranked in the BCS top 10. Texas A&M, LSU and South Carolina.
6. South Carolina 8-2 (6)
This Week: Wofford
Last Week: Beat Arkansas 38-20
Steve Spurrier needs just two more wins to become South Carolina's all-time winningest football coach with 65 victories.
7. Mississippi State 7-3 (7)
This Week: Arkansas
Last Week: Lost to LSU 37-17
The Bulldogs rushed for just 47 yards in the loss to LSU. Mississippi State's top running back is expected to play against the Hogs. LaDarius Perkins missed the LSU game with a quad injury.
8. Vanderbilt 6-4 (9)
This Week: Tennessee
Last Week: Beat Ole Miss 27-26
Vanderbilt has a chance at winning eight games in a season for the first time since 1982.
9. Ole Miss 5-5 (8)
This Week: at LSU
Last Week: Lost to Vanderbilt 27-26
Four of the last five games played between LSU and Ole Miss in Baton Rouge have been decided by a touchdown or less.
10. Missouri 5-5 (12)
This Week: Syracuse
Last Week: Beat Tennessee 51-48 in (4OT)
Missouri needs a win this Saturday to secure a bowl berth. They finish the season at Texas A&M.
11. Arkansas 4-6 (10)
This Week: at Mississippi State
Last Week: Lost to South Carolina 38-20
Razorbacks Coach John L. Smith remains optimistic he'll remain the head coach at Arkansas despite leading a football team from a preseason Top 10 ranking to possibly not making a bowl game.
12. Tennessee 4-6 (11)
This Week: at Vanderbilt
Last Week: Lost to Missouri 51-48 in (4OT)
Volunteers QB Tyler Bray said he's paid to win football games. Then tried to back track and said getting paid refers to his scholarship.
13. Auburn 2-8 (13)
This Week: Alabama A&M
Last Week: Lost to Georgia 38-0
I'm wondering if there will be 30,000 people on hand to see this game.
14. Kentucky 1-9 (13)
This Week: Samford
Last Week: Bye
