After a couple of delays owing to Hurricane Sandy and the observance of Veterans' Day, today elections officials will count the last of the mail-in ballots in last week's elections. 

It shouldn't make a difference in who was elected last week, but there is still a contentious issue to be settled -- whether or not drivers will continue paying tolls for the next 20 years on the Crescent City Connection.
 
There aren't that many ballots left to count, according to Meg Casper with the Louisiana Secretary of State's office.

"A total of 35 ballots need to be counted," Casper noted.

In the three parishes that voted on the bridge toll extension, 32 of those ballots are here at city hall, where they will be counted later this morning.  Three are in Jefferson, and none are from Plaquemines parish. 

Casper says it shouldn't take long to get results.

"Compared to election night, it should be a much quicker process."

Since election night, the decision to extend the tolls was ahead by just eight votes.

Parishes have until Thursday to submit the vote count for certification.
