The Louisiana Secretary of State says that the "yes" votes to keep the tolls for another 20 years are in the lead by a grand total of just eight votes.
Remaining to be counted are a handful of ballots from registered voters who are deployed members of the U.S. Military, according to Jay Batt, President of the Board of Supervisors of Elections for Orleans Parish.
Batt says they pushed the count of provisional ballots back to Tuesday to ensure that all ballots from members of the military are included.
"As a result of Hurricane Sandy, the weather, and the problems with weather, and the problems with getting the transports over here...We extended the deadline by 24 hours to allow for those military ballots to arrive here in our city, and giving everyone the opportunity to vote."
According to Batt, his office has the right under the law to push the count back because this is a holiday weekend.
"For those people that are wondering why we're not counting on Saturday, as originally scheduled, that's the official Veteran's Day, and we're observing that," Batt said. "So that's why we pushed it to Tuesday."
Batt says the count will take place on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in 6-E12, and will be open to the public.
