CCC tolls one of the most contentious items on ballot

Many elected officials have taken their stance on the Crescent City Connection tolls, with New Orleans Mayor Landrieu in favor of keeping the tolls and Jefferson Parish President John Young against the renewal.

And now over 200 Westbank businesses have started a grass roots effort to fight for the tolls on the Crescent City Connection to cease at the end of the year, this while many other prominent local business leaders have come out with a advertising campaign in support of keeping the tolls.

Click here for more info on local PAC focused on keeping tolls.

Will this New Orleans bridge, the fifth largest in the nation, still collect tolls after the first of the year?  After all the controversy, the decision today is in voter's hands.

The local voters I talked to seem just as divided, but anxious for a final decision today.  This downtown worker says, "Keep 'em!  We can't rely on the state to pay for the maintenance, etc., that needs to be done.  And I think the people that use the bridge ought to pay for it."

Another woman who crosses the CCC every day told me she hopes the tolls are dropped, as it's just too expensive for her.  (The toll is $1, one way, and 40 cents with a toll pass.)

Another man told me "I don't cross the bridge, so I'm for them!"
