Sproles out, needs surgery

Saints running back Darren Sproles is out for the Monday night game, and maybe for some time to come.

Coach Joe Vitt says he needs surgery on a broken hand.

"He hurt his hand," Vitt said.  "That's why he's not playing in the game."

When a reporter brought up that an injured hand for a running back isn't good, Vitt quipped, "I would think if you're an opera singer, a sore throat would be bad, too."

How long will Sproles be out?

"We will reevaluate him next week."

Vitt did not share any further information.

Sproles has scored four TD's this season.  He racked up 117 yards running the ball (averaging 4.5 per carry) and 323 yards through the air (averaging 8.3 per catch).

Vitt says, "This is gonna be a great opportunity for some of our other running backs to get some more reps and show what they can do."

Receiver Courtney Roby is also out with a shoulder injury.
