Cops look for answers after fetus ripped from womb

While police work to determine what led up to a Northshore man allegedly cutting his pregnant wife open and ripping out the fetus, the medical examiner is trying to figure out what happened to the unborn child.

The coroner is conducting an autopsy on the fetus today.

How is the mother doing?

"She is stable, which is good news," according to Livingston Parish Sheriff's Spokeswoman Lori Steele.  "We know she was seven-and-a-half months pregnant and she is 28 years old."

Steele says 31-year-old Jeffrey Reynolds of Walker, Louisiana (above) allegedly attacked his wife in their home, stabbing her in the abdomen and cutting the fetus from her.

"He has been charged with first degree feticide and attempted second degree murder."

As for why this happened, Steele said they just don't know yet.

"The motive is unclear now," she explained.  "We are actually collecting evidence at the hospital, drawing blood and getting toxicology reports."
