Early voting begins today

If you've made up your mind already on who and what you want to vote for, you can go ahead and cast your ballots today through next week. Early voting starts today in Louisiana.

Presidential elections usually get the most voter interest, and Jefferson Parish Registrar of Voters Dennis DiMarco thinks there will be a lot of early voting this year.

"We anticipate large crowds...equal to what we experienced for years ago if not larger," said DiMarco. He says that's based on the number of newly registered voters, and on the fact that he had to turn away a handful of people who showed up Monday wanting to vote, a day early for early voting.

In Jefferson Parish, polls for early voting can be found at the registrar's main office on the fifth floor of the Yenni Building in Elmwood at 1221 Elmwood Park Boulevard; at 5001 Westbank Expressway at Barataria Blvd.; or their newest location in Rivertown at 408 Minor Street in Kenner.

In New Orleans, the early voting polls are at New Orleans City Hall, the Algiers Courthouse, and at the voting machine warehouse at 8870 Chef Menteur Highway.

St. Tammany voters can vote early at the St. Tammany Justice Center in downtown Covington, at The Towers Building at 520 Old Spanish Trail in Slidell, or their newest location at The Parish Council Building at 21490 Koop Drive in Mandeville.
