Police: Cabbie shot robber in face after he ran away

New Orleans police have released limited information about a cab driver shooting a man.
Officer Garry Flot sent the following via email:
"United Cab driver was dispatched to the 3100 block of Burgundy to pick up a fare. Upon arrival, the man entered the cab and asked to go to Canal Street . Once inside the cab, the man implied he was armed and demanded the cab drivers money and keys to the cab. The driver complied and the man fled on foot. The cab driver was armed with a gun and shot the man in the face."
WWL First News spoke to Officer Flot. When asked about the statement indicating the suspect fled and the cabbie then shot him in the face, Flot declined to explain or make any further comment.
Flot did say that the cab driver is a "41-year-old male" and the person shot in the face is an "African-American male approximately 16-18 years old."
He also said that the teenager is now listed in "serious but guarded condition."
