ULL gets a bye this weekend after taking care of business against Tulane last Saturday. The Ragin’ Cajuns’ won’t get a ton of time off, however, as they play North Texas this coming Tuesday at 8pm.
Tulane get things started today at noon against the Southern Methodist Mustangs. The Green Wave are still searching for that elusive first win after losing their fifth straight. Tulane ranks dead last in rushing yards and points scored, but they are hoping the return of starting quarterback Ryan Griffin will provide a spark.
The problems keep coming for the Grambling State Tigers. Grambling fell to 0 and 5 on the year with their 14 to 31 loss to Prairie View A&M last week. The Tigers face Mississippi Valley State at 2 p.m. The Delta Devils lone win came against Southeastern in Week 3
After getting burned by the UAB Blazers last Saturday, the Southeastern Lions will look to bounce back against fellow Louisiana school and Southland Conference member Northwestern State at 3 p.m. The Demons are coming off a close win over the Lamar Cardinals and hope to give Southeastern its first conference loss.
Southern dropped another close one last week, this time to Alcorn State. Ignoring a drubbing by FBS team New Mexico, the Jaguars other two losses have both been by one possession. Southern has a chance to recover today at 4:30 against a struggling Texas Southern squad that has taken a beating in three straight weeks. Despite their losing record, Coach Dawson Odums and the Jaguars are excited for their homecoming game.
Nicholls State is now just 2 and 13 in their last 15 games after losing Central Arkansas 14 to 34. The Colonels take on their second ranked foe in a row today at 6 o’clock when they host the 8th ranked Sam Houston State Bearkats.
The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks aim to keep flying along after a solid win over Middle Tennessee last Saturday. ULM heads back home to host the Florida Atlantic Owls at 7pm. The Owls are sitting at 1 and 4 while the Warhawks are 3 and 2 and 1 and 0 in Sun Belt Conference play. The Warhawks high-powered passing game will attempt to take flight against a weak FAU defense. Coach Todd Berry says the Owls could have a few surprises for ULM since they’re coming off their bye week.
The Cowboys of McNeese State had an extra week to prepare for their big match-up against Central Arkansas at 7 o’clock tonight. McNeese is ranked 15th in the FCS Coaches Poll, while the Bears are sitting at 17th. The Cowboys are 4 and 1, with their only loss at the hands of Southeastern by a single point.
The 23rd ranked Louisiana Tech Bulldogs get one of the premier match-ups of the week when they take on the Texas A&M Aggies in Shreveport at 8 o’clock. The Bulldogs are averaging a ridiculous 53 points per game and have scored over 50 in four of their five games. Quarterback Colby Cameron is one of just three QBs who haven’t thrown an interception all season. In addition, Tech is ranked in both the AP and Coaches Poll for the 1st time ever.
