Cops: LSU student tried to kill mother for inheritance

A 19-year-old Louisiana State University student is accused of plotting to kill her mother for an inheritance and offering $50,000 to an 18-year-old classmate for his help.

Nicole Boover was held without bond Wednesday in New Orleans on a charge of attempted first-degree murder and Nathan Andrew Yuhas was booked in Baton Rouge the same day as a fugitive from justice, online records show.

Both are students at Louisiana State University and were arrested there — Boover on Monday in her dormitory room and Yuhas on Tuesday at the student union, campus police Capt. Cory Lalonde told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Court papers filed to support Yuhas' arrest warrant quote him as telling police Boover wanted to kill her parents to inherit from them, The Times-Picayune (http://bit.ly/PokbW9) reported Wednesday.

Under Louisiana law, parents can disinherit children who try to kill them or even raise a hand to hit them.

Authorities say Boover allegedly tapped on her mother's apartment door about 4:30 a.m. Monday, raising a silver-colored handgun when her mother answered. The mother shut the door immediately, but Boover allegedly fired three shots into it.

After her mother and stepfather called New Orleans police, the stepfather called LSU campus police to say that she might have returned to her dormitory.

Campus police found Yuhas in Boover's car Monday near the dormitory and found Boover in her room, detaining both of them, Lalonde said. He said police also found a small amount of marijuana in each location, so each also was booked on a misdemeanor drug charge.

Yuhas provided "more details and specifics" during questioning later Monday by campus police, and New Orleans police got a warrant Tuesday accusing him as a principal to attempted first-degree murder, Lalonde said. He said LSU police arrested Yuhas on Tuesday afternoon.

The application for Yuhas' arrest warrant indicates that he and Boover went together to buy gloves, duct tape and masks like those worn by the killers in the "Scream" movies. Yuhas allegedly told police that he and Boover planned to leave the state after killing her parents.
