Tonight is the first time WWL 105.3 FM will carry a New Orleans Hornets game under our new contract agreement with the team.
But you won't be able to see it on TV. A select few of the preseason games will be televised by the networks, but a consistent airing of Hornets games on television won't start until the end of the month.
Fox Sports is undergoing a rebranding process and will emerge as Fox Sports New Orleans later this month. They'll broadcast the regular season games starting on Halloween on Cox Cable for the southshore viewing area.
"This new partnership with Fox Sports New Orleans is going to allow a much broader base of fans throughout the entire state and the region to catch Hornets games," says Hornets Vice President of Communications Harold Kaufman. "And we're excited about the partnership with WWL FM 105.3."
Fox Sports New Orleans is scheduled to televise 75 games, and "Opening night will be against the San Antonio Spurs on October 31st, that's the home opener and season opener," says Kaufman.
But on the Northshore, Charter Communications is still in negotiations with Fox Sports according to a Charter spokesperson.
Still no word yet if Dish Network, DirecTV and AT&T U-Verse will carry the games on the rebranded Fox channel. Fox Sports New Orleans Public Relations Director Ramon Alvarez says, "We're in active discussions with all of our distributors, including the ones you mentioned. We expect them to be on board for the start of the season."
In the meantime and throughout the season, you can catch the Hornets on WWL Radio.
The Hornets take on Charlotte at the New Orleans Arena and tip-off is at 7PM tonight on WWL 105.3 FM.
