Jindal counters sagging approval rating with his own numbers

From an approval rating in the 70s to now just over 51 percent: that's how much of a drop Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has experienced so far while in office. The governor says the numbers suit him just fine.

Not only are Jindal's numbers down about 20 points from his electoral honeymoon, they're down ten points just since the spring, according to the Southern Media and Opinion Research poll. But the governor says he doesn't care for approval ratings, and as always, he has a barrage of numbers of his own.

"You look at the performance of Louisiana compared to the south and nationally: one of only two states in the south with Texas that has more jobs than before this national recession started," Jindal said.  "Per-capita income, our ranking's now at an 80-year high.  In this state our per-capita income's actually gone up."

Jindal said he'll take that over trying to get the most people to like him: "We don't govern according to polls."
