Hornets' executive caught with gun at airport

According to a report in the New York Post, an executive with the New Orleans Hornets was detained by TSA agents at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey Friday, after they discovered a loaded handgun in his bag.

36-year-old Hornets' vice-president Joshua Richardson was reportedly stopped as he tried to check in for his flight, according to the newspaper.

The newspaper said Richardson was charged with one count of criminal possession of a weapon.

Quoting Port Authority Police, the article said that Richardson was flying home to New Orleans from Newark when the .38-caliber handgun was discovered  in his luggage.

The Post said that Richardson "had allegedly taken the weapon on his trip to the New York area by accident after he grabbed his wife's bag containing the weapon, instead of his own."

An airport official told the paper that the gun was legally registered to Richardson's wife.

Harold Kaufman, Senior Director of Communications for the Hornets, confirmed to WWL-TV that Richardson was flying with a loaded gun in his checked baggage, but said the Hornets were not ready to comment on the issue at this time.
TSA officials said they will conduct a full investigation.
