Cajun food and live music take over downtown Houma this weekend.

The inaugural Best of the Bayou Festival will include about 25 bands on two large stages this Saturday and Sunday.
 
The musical entertainment features nationally and regionally-known acts, such as Cowboy Mouth, the Givers, Marc Broussard and local bands from the bayou.

Of course, being a southeast Louisiana festival, the 'Best of the Bayou' Fest will serve up unbelievably good food including seafood, barbecue, Cajun and Creole items.

Some of the areas most talented artisans will offer one-of-a-kind arts and crafts for sale.

"We do have an indoor sports bar," says Festival Manager Lori Benoit. "We'll have a movie-sized projection screen in there with the weekend games, both LSU and the Saints."

Benoit says Voodoo Barbecue and Grill will provide food in the sports bar and adult beverages will be available, as well.

There will also be a Kids Corner with free games, arts and crafts, and a rock-climbing wall, which will cost $5 per climb.

Festival grounds will stretch from Lafayette to Barrow Streets in Houma's historical downtown district.

The Best of the Bayou Festival will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

The event is being paid for with money the state and Terrebonne Parish got from oil giant BP as compensation for damage caused by the Deepwater Horizon drilling
rig explosion off the state's coast in April 2010.
