Plaq. Parish deputy fired after cyberstalking arrest

Officials say a Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Deputy lost his job after being arrested on a charge of cyberstalking.

A news release from the Sheriff's Department says 32-year-old deputy Ryan Martinez was arrested on September 20 on the cyberstalking charge.  The department has not released any other details about the alleged crime.

Sheriff's Spokesman Commander Eric J. Becnel  says Martinez had been employed by the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office since March of 2004.  According to Becnel, Martinez was assigned to Third District Patrol Division as a Deputy at the time of his arrest/termination.

In the news release, Sheriff Lonnie Greco is quoted as stating, “When I was elected Sheriff, I pledged transparency to the public.  Members of the Sheriff’s Office will be held to a high standard and if they commit a crime, they will be held accountable for their actions.”
