Five things to look for as LSU hosts Towson

LSU looks to go 5-0 for the fourth straight season and fifth time in eight years under Coach Les Miles. More importantly Towson is the Tigers final tune-up, before the schedule gets more difficult. Here are five things to look for as the Tigers seek their 26th straight victory in games during the month of September.

1. Improved Passing Game

With a trip to Florida coming up next week, LSU's passing game has to get on track. It's been a combination of things on why the passing game has not taken off. There's been dropped passes, poor protection and Zach Mettenberger making costly mistakes that have led to turnovers. Towson is only allowing 107 passing yards a game, but the Tigers should be able to double that number.

2. Terrance West

Towson shouldn't provide many problems for the Tigers, but it will be interesting to see how sophomore running back Terrance West performs against one of the top defenses in the country. He led FCS with 29 touchdowns in 2011, which is a national record for touchdowns scored by a freshman. West already has scored five touchdowns this season to go along with 251 rushing yards.

3. LSU looks to limit penalties

The Tigers have committed 32 penalties through four games. The 32 penalties are tied for the most in the Southeastern Conference. Most of the penalties last week were on offense, but there were three flags thrown against the Tigers during special teams plays. For the season, LSU has been penalized ten times on punts and punt returns. Miles has had enough it. He said this week that players will lose their opportunity to play on special teams, if they commit a careless penalty.

4. Improved Red Zone Play

There have been five times this season that the Tigers have entered the red zone this season and came away with no points. That only happened on four occasions last season. A failed trip in the red zone against Florida, South Carolina or Alabama could result in a loss.

5. It never rains in Tiger Stadium

Public Address Announcer Dan Borne likes to say right before kickoff that the chance for rain in Tiger Stadium is Never! Borne will likely say that statement again on Saturday. The only problem is that it could be raining when he says it. The current forecast calls for an 80% chance of rain during the day on Saturday and 60% at night.
