Broussard friend turns foe

The Former parish attorney for Jefferson Parish appears to have turned on his codefendant, former Parish President Aaron Broussard (above).

Tom Wilkinson is appearing in court today after prosecutors charged him in a felony bill of information in the corruption case against the two men and others.  The feds are now charging Wilkinson with a single felony.  He had been facing 22 charges.

Legal analyst says that indicates he is cooperating with federal prosecutors.

Wilkinson is now charged with conspiracy to commit misprision of a felony.  That means he allegedly knew about a crime taking place, but didn't report it.

Prior to these latest developments, Wilkinson and Broussard had been jointly denying wrong doing and fighting the federal charges together.

Among the sprawling federal charges against Broussard are allegations that he and Wilkinson hired Broussard's then-fiance as the parish's paralegal supervisor, even though she was not qualified to hold the position.  Karen Parker, now Broussard's ex-wife, also got annual raises despite allegedly not conducting any work.  She was paid more than $300,000.

Parker is also cooperating with the feds.
