LSU breaks records in 63-14 win over Idaho

How It Happened:

Quarterback Zack Mettenberger threw two touchdown passes, running back Kenny Hilliard ran for two scores and the defense also scored a couple of touchdowns as the Tigers scored 42 unanswered points to run away with their third victory of the season. Jeremy Hill also had two rushing touchdowns in his first game for the Tigers.

Turning Point:

Late in the 2nd quarter, the Vandals started a drive at their own 12-yard line. But Death Valley came alive and helped force three straight false start penalties to back Idaho up to their own two-yard line. Idaho would eventually punt, giving LSU excellent field position at the Vandals 39-yard line. Three plays later, Mettenberger threw a touchdown pass to Jarvis Landry and the rout was on.

Tiger MVP:

Sophomore safety Ronald Martin got the start for an injured Craig Loston and made the most of it. The former White Castle star intercepted two passes, bringing the second one back 45 yards for a score. Martin was also in on five tackles.

Stat of the Night:

LSU scored more than 60 points for the first time in the Les Miles era. 1997 was the last time the Tigers eclipsed 60, when they beat Kentucky 63-28.

Out of the Bounds:

LSU scored two defensive touchdowns for the first time since 1991, when they had three defensive scores in a win over Arkansas State.

Up Next:

LSU will head on the road for the first time this season when they visit the Auburn Tigers on September 22nd. Auburn nearly fell to 0-and-3 on the season, but figured out a way to beat ULM 31-28 in OT. War Eagles Quarterback Kiehl Frazier was 10 of 18 for 130 yards. He was intercepted once and threw one touchdown on a hail mary pass. For the season, Frazier has completed just 49% of his passes.
