The junior college transfer had an impressive game in the Vandals loss to Bowling Green last week. Blackman completed 30 of 37 passes for 352 yards and a TD. The California native is 6-foot-5, 255 pounds. The left-hander has a nice touch on his passes and quick feet. Don't expect him to run too much, but he'll still be a good test for LSU's defense.
2. LSU's Wide Receivers
Tigers Quarterback Zack Mettenberger was sharp in the win over Washington, but his night could have been better, if the receivers didn't drop as many as five passes. There are still some questions about the receivers and they need to have a good bounce back performance against the Vandals to alleviate any fears that Mettenberger doesn't have enough weapons to really make the passing game work.
3. Creating turnovers
LSU is ranked fifth in total defense, but there's always room for improvement. Defensive Coordinator John Chavis said this week that he would like to see more turnovers. The Tigers have only forced three in two games.
4. Look for some young players to get a lot of playing time
Idaho might be the perfect opponent to play, as the Tigers open SEC play next week against the Auburn Tigers. It also provides the opportunity to play a lot of youngsters. Look for linebackers Deion Jones and Kwon Alexander to see more snaps. Freshman offensive tackle Vadal Alexander should also see some action on the right side of the line and Les Miles would like to give sophomore Terrance Magee some time at wide receiver.
5. Stay Away from Major Injuries
LSU has lost seven players since the start of fall camp because of injury, suspension or failing to be academically qualified. As of now the Tigers can sustain the losses, but it could become a problem if LSU suffers any major injuries in the defensive secondary, at linebacker or along the offensive line.
