Police say a man arrested for brandishing a loaded AR-15 rifle at a LaPlace DSNAPS emergency food stamp site left behind disturbing evidence and a strange collection of animals in his mobile home.
St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre says when officers executed a search warrant of the suspect's trailer today, they found a suicide note and more than a dozen large snakes.
"When we got there, we opened the door and were greeted with a number of snakes," Tregre told WWL-TV. "I think we collected 13 pythons yesterday at his mobile trailer."
Trege said investigators also found what appeared to be a suicide note, leading him to believe the suspect, Mark Knight, was ready to open fire.
"We have no doubt that he was about to do something that would have probably taken the lives of officers, military and citizens, because and I can tell you this, we did obtain a note and it appears to be a note of last will and testimony at his trailer," he told WWL-TV.
Police say the LaPlace man was arrested at a St. John DSNAP application site after cops saw him trying to retrieve a loaded assault rifle from his vehicle after his claim was denied.
