The area has been closed to the public since Monday, September 3rd and it's unknown when the evacuation order will be lifted and residents allowed back to the area.
Sheriff Greco says residents can get to the east bank of Plaquemines Parish, south of Stolthaven by using the Belle Chasse Tunnel. Residents can get to Braithwaite Park by using the Chalmette Ferry.
Although there is not an immediate threat to the public at this time, there is a possibility that materials on rail cars and in the facility can become unstable.
Stolthaven does not have power and received significant damage as a result of Hurricane Isaac.
