The New Orleans City Council today calls Entergy officials in to answer questions about the power restoration.  Issues are expected to include the pace of turning the electricity back on, preparations before the storm and if proper maintenance has been done to prevent outages during a hurricane.

Entergy started the day with more than 44,000 customers out statewide.  The largest number were in Jefferson Parish with more than 17,000.  Orleans is next with 8,000.  Plaquemines and St. John each have about 5,000 customers still without power.

Disaster food stamps are available starting tomorrow.  People are urged to go on line and preregister now.  More info...

The Pearl River crests this evening.  Authorities says because the peak was delayed, flooding won't be as dramatic.  The river is draining more quickly because the tidal rise from the surge has subsided.
