It seems every time there's an emergency, especially on the scale of Isaac, we usually get reports of price gouging. Whether it's gasoline, food or stuff to shore up a house, the state law is quite strict and strictly enforced, says Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell said this is not an opportunity to cash in as people are already in panic mode.
From the time the emergency is declared and a complaint is filed, a store owner would have to prove their expenses have gone up, forcing them to jack up prices.
''In other words, if you've got stuff in your store, you can't change the price on it now,'' said Caldwell.

There is a price gouging hotline to call but Caldwell notes they only have so many agents on hand.
'' Local police agencies can investigate price gouging and we can help them." He said.
