AERIAL SPRAYING FOR MOSQUITOES
Aerial spraying in response to nuisance mosquito activity is scheduled to take place on the evening of Wednesday, September 5, 2012, over parts of Jefferson Parish. Low-level aerial spraying will take place on the east and west banks of Jefferson Parish from 7:20 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
The boundaries to be sprayed are as follows:
West Bank:
Gretna/Terrytown, in the area bounded by the Mississippi River on the north, Carol Sue Avenue on the south, the Jefferson/Orleans Parish line on the east and Belle Chase Highway on the west.
Westwego, in the area bounded by the Mississippi River on the north, Lapalco Boulevard on the south, Victory Drive on the east and Nine Mile Point Road on the west.
Crown Point, all the developed areas and extending into the wooded area and generally bounded by Barataria Boulevard on the north, Jean Lafitte Boulevard on the south, Sharpe Road on the east and Leo Kerner Parkway on the west
Lafitte/Barataria, in the area bounded by the Fleming Curve near Palmetto Street on the north, the end of jean Lafitte Boulevard near Kenal Road/Orange Avenue on the south, and bordered by marsh on the east and west sides.
East Bank:
Jefferson, in the area bounded by Airline Drive on the north, the Mississippi River on the south, the Orleans/Jefferson Parish line on the east and Clearview Parkway on the west.

West Jefferson Medical Announces Openings following Isaac
September 3, 2012 (Marrero-LA) - West Jefferson Medical Center announces the following Openings for Tuesday, September 4, 2012:
• All of The Family Doctors Clinics (except its Lafitte Clinic) will re-open Tuesday with normal hours of operation and services. The Lafitte clinic is closed until further advised. The open clinics are located at 1111 Medical Center Boulevard in Marrero South 850; 175 Hector Avenue in Terrytown; 3909 Lapalco Boulevard in Harvey; and 2845 Manhattan Boulevard in Harvey. • Jefferson Medical Center resumes its Outpatient Services on Tuesday,
September 4th including both Rehab Connection locations (WJ Medical Plaza and the Oakwood Wellness Complex) and the Women’s Imaging and Breast Care
Center and Sleep Center in the WJ Medical Plaza.
• The West Jeff Fitness Centers (both Oakwood location and main campus at West Jefferson) will re-open on September 4.
In addition, the Physicians Center medical office building North and South Towers at 1111 Medical Center Boulevard is open with normal hours and operations.
West Jefferson Medical Center remained opened during Isaac responding to the needs of the community and is pleased to resume outpatient and clinic services to further assist its patients and area citizens recovering from the storm.

The Jefferson Parish Public School System (JPPSS) has announced that all but three of its schools will reopen for students Thursday, September 6.
Schools across the District suffered damage from Hurricane Isaac, and today many schools remain without power. The three schools receiving the greatest impact from the hurricane and opening later than the others are Grand Isle School in Grand Isle, La., and Leo E. Kerner, Jr., Elementary School and Fischer Middle-High School, both in Lafitte, La. These schools are scheduled to open on Monday, September 10.
The JPPSS Central Office will reopen Tuesday, September 4, and all central office staff are asked to report to their respective offices.
Those facing extenuating circumstances should contact their respective supervisor.
All JPPSS athletic events and after-school activities will restart with the reopening of schools.

Beginning Sunday, September 2, 2012, there will be one EASTBANK POD site and one WESTBANK POD site to provide water, ice, and MRE’s to residents of Jefferson Parish.

On the EASTBANK, residents may continue to go to Zephyr Field, 6000 Airline Drive, Metairie. Enter at the parking lot closest to the Saints Training Facility.

Lafitte and Barataria are now opening for residents and property owners only, south of Goose Bayou is still closed. "Ice, water, MRE’s, tarps, clean-up kits, and toiletries are available for those residents, if needed, next to Town Hall," said a statement from parish officials.

The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals in conjunction with the Jefferson Parish Water Department has issued a Boil Water Advisory for Grand isle as a precautionary measure because of the loss of pressure in the distribution system due to the mandatory evacuation for Hurricane Isaac. The pressure is expected to be restored shortly and chlorination of the drinking water is also beginning. The entire process of restoration will take at least 2-3 days.
Jefferson Parish Transit is back in service with a modified schedule; Jefferson Transit will operate from 9:00 am – 7:30 pm until further notice.
Thirteen Code Enforcement Damage Assessment Teams have descended upon the streets of Jefferson Parish to begin assessing storm damage. These Parish vehicles will be driving slowly and carefully to achieve this task. We ask for the public’s caution and cooperation while Assessment Teams are out.
At the request of Mayor Tim Kerner the dusk to dawn curfew WILL REMAIN in effect in the Town of Jean Lafitte, Barataria, and Crown Point.

Jefferson Parish President John Young had harsh words for Entergy over the utility company's response to the power outages caused by Hurricane Isaac.
Young said that he had heard from numerous angry residents that "There are more Entergy trucks in parking lots than out on the streets."
The Parish President used the word "unacceptable" several times in describing the work so far by Entergy to restore power to Jefferson parish
Young said that Entergy's "snail's pace" in dealing with power outages is impacting the parish's infrastructure and safety response capability.

The National Weather Service reports Isaac has weakened into a tropical depression and all tropical storm warnings have been discontinued.
Jefferson Parish has announced the dusk to dawn curfew has been lifted for Jefferson Parish including the cities of Kenner, Gretna, Harahan, and Westwego. However, at the request of Mayor Tim Kerner a curfew WILL remain in effect from dusk to dawn in the Town of Jean Lafitte, Barataria, and Crown Point.
Garbage and recycling collection will resume per the regular collection schedule tomorrow, Friday, August 31st. However, there will be NO GARBAGE AND RECYCLING COLLECTION IN LAFITTE, BARATARIA, AND CROWN POINT TOMORROW, FRIDAY, AUGUST 21, 2012.

Jefferson Parish garbage and recycling collection will resume per regular collection schedule starting Friday, August 31st. Due to the cancelled collection days resulting from Hurricane Isaac, there will be garbage and recycling collection on Labor Day, September 3, 2012, in those areas that have regularly scheduled Monday collection.
In addition, on Friday, August 31st, Jefferson Parish contractors will begin collecting storm-generated debris curbside. Ceres Environmental Services, Inc. will collect storm debris on the east bank and DRC Emergency Services; LLC will collect storm debris on the west bank. More than one pass will be made through all neighborhoods to collect storm-generated debris.
It is important that residents separate household garbage from storm debris at the curb as there will be separate trucks collecting storm debris, and quantities of storm debris must be carefully documented in order for Jefferson Parish to receive FEMA reimbursement. Jefferson Parish strongly urges all residents to place regular household garbage and storm-related debris in separate piles by type as shown on the attached graphic.
All garbage and storm-related debris should be placed on the Parish right-of-way, the grassy area between the street and the sidewalk, immediately in front of your property. Please do not place debris on or near to mailboxes or fire hydrants as collection activities could result in damages. Debris should not be piled under low hanging wires or tree branches as equipment such as a boom truck “claw” will not be able to access it. Vehicles should not be parked in front of debris, as collection equipment will not be able to access it. All leaves, small twigs, etc. must be bagged. Piles of loose leaves/twigs will not be collected.
The regular white IESI garbage trucks will collect containerized household garbage. The regular blue Progressive Waste Solutions trucks will collect recyclable materials in 18-gallon, open-top bins.

Jefferson Parish Department of Public Works crews have begun clearing trees and debris from major parish thoroughfares and residential streets.
For the most part, debris has been cleared from major thoroughfares with the exception of some places where downed power poles or power lines are within close proximity of downed trees.

Officials say a dusk-to-dawn curfew will be enforced in Jefferson Parish tonight.
The curfew will be in effect for the all of Jefferson Parish including the cities of Kenner, Gretna, Harahan, Westwego and Lafitte.
The Sheriff is urging all Jefferson Parish residents to remain in the homes.

The remaining residents in the Town of Jean Lafitte, Crown Point and Barataria are strongly encouraged to heed the mandatory evacuation order of Mayor Tim Kerner, issued Monday. Water continues to rise and soon residents will become stranded and cut-off from police, fire, and EMS services.
Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand has announced a “Dusk to Dawn” curfew beginning this evening in effect for all of Jefferson Parish including the cities of Kenner, Gretna, Harahan, Westwego, and Lafitte.
There are numerous reports of widespread downed trees and power lines throughout Jefferson Parish. Citizens are strongly urged to stay indoors at this time. Do not touch downed power lines, trees or fences which may present a life-threatening risk of electrocution. Citizens are asked to clean out their drains of any debris that may have fallen while the wind gusts have subsided temporarily.

Entergy reports 168,000 (78%) customers in Jefferson Parish are out of power as of 7:30am, Wednesday, August 29, 2012. Entergy is evaluating if weather conditions are safe to allow crews to respond. If there is a break in the weather they will be opening staging areas today and mobilizing contractor and company crews into the service areas. Entergy has a plan, and asks for your continued support.

METAIRIE, La. (AP) -- Jefferson Parish officials say winds from Hurricane Isaac have downed power lines and trees in the New Orleans suburb and heavy rainfall has caused minor street flooding.
Spokeswoman Kriss Fortunato said no injuries had been reported.
Power provider Entergy Corp. said about 164,000 customers were without power early Wednesday.
Grand Isle, the barrier island at Jefferson's extreme southern tip, was hit hard by the storm as it wobbled ashore overnight.
Heavier damage was expect there although most residents evacuated ahead of the storm

The National Weather Service has now declared Isaac a Category 1 hurricane, with sustained wind speeds of 75MPH.
Jefferson Parish citizens are advised it is possible emergency response may not be available once winds from Hurricane Isaac reach 50MPH. Due to safety concerns of emergency responders in dangerous weather conditions, these services may not be available until the threat or danger of this weather event passes.
The following Care Centers have evacuated their residents: Bayside Health Care, 3201 Wall Boulevard, Gretna, La, Maison Deville, 2233 8th Street, Harvey, Belle Vie Living Center, 535 Commerce, Gretna, and West Jefferson Healthcare, 1020 Manhattan Boulevard, Harvey.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced that it is in the process of restaging its bus assets to locations outside of the potential path of the storm and away from flood zones to ensure they are accessible for citizen’s future use. DOTD will maintain 10 coaches, 1 van and 1 pet carrier at Zephyr Field if an immediate need arises. Buses will be on standby in nearby locations to return immediately should services be needed in coastal regions.
All special needs evacuation operations at Mike Miley Playground have ceased. Special needs residents requiring assistance with self-evacuation and their caretakers are strongly urged to make their individual plans. City of Kenner update
Mayor Michael S. Yenni and city officials are remaining in constant contact with other government agencies for the latest information regarding Tropical Storm Isaac. Yenni said "We have enacted our 24 hour emergency operations. The City is prepared."
Impact from the storm is expected to begin in the early morning on Tuesday, August 28th. Due to Isaac's expected slow movement across the region, the duration of tropical storm force winds will range from 20-24 hours across much of the area with some locations up to 36 hours. Storm total rainfall of 8 to 16 inches is expected as Isaac moves through the area.

o Airline Drive is expected to shut down at 8 p.m. this evening and traffic will be rerouted to River Road.
o Price Gouging Law in Effect Following State of Emergency Declaration – if you suspect price gouging, please contact the Louisiana Attorney General's Office at 1 (800) 351-4889.
o La 45 floodgate near Jean Lafitte National Park has been closed. An alternate route is La 3134.

o Please secure any loose debris that may become a projectile with high wind.

The City of Gretna wishes to advise you of some important information relative to the approach of Hurricane Isaac.
Garbage and trash collection services scheduled for Tuesday, August 28th are cancelled. Residents south of the Westbank Expressway and your normal pickup is for Tuesday, please remove your garbage can and trash from the street to prevent spillage and flying debris during the high winds expected on Tuesday.
Additionally, Gretna City Hall will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday so that city employees can focus on storm related issues. You may call 504-363-1500 or 363-1505 during the event as these phones will be active. Should you need city services, please call at any time.

The East Jefferson Levee District will close the Bonnabel and Williams flood gates at 4pm and 5pm respectively.

First Parish Court for the Parish of Jefferson is closed today and will remain closed through Wednesday, August 29, 2012, unless further extended.

24th Judicial District Court, Parish of Jefferson, State of Louisiana, has declared Tuesday, August 28, 2012 and Wednesday, August 29, 2012 to be a legal holiday. The 24th Judicial District Court is closed and will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2012.
If the conditions indicate that the Court needs to adjust closing dates and times, notice will be posted on the Court's website (www.24jdc.us), the Louisiana Supreme Court website (www.lasc.org), and in the news media.
Any persons currently being held in the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center or by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office for attachments issued by the judges of First Parish Court who have not or will not have the opportunity to appear before the court in its magistrate capacity in order for bond to be set prior to the state of emergency, shall have personal surety bonds set in amounts established by the bond schedule previously promulgated by this Court and be released prior to any mandatory evacuation of the parish.
Should any prisoners or persons held pursuant to attachments issued by the Judges of First Parish Court be transferred or evacuated by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office or other such authority to other locations within the state, this, Order for release shall be deemed continuing and applicable to whatever facility at which any arrestee subject to this Order maybe housed.
The Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter will not accept owner-surrender animals today. Please ensure the safety of your companion animals by bringing them inside or if you plan to evacuate bring them with you. Remember to pack their medical records and adequate food and water. If you are able to photocopy the medical records, make an extra copy to keep separate from the originals. It is also important that your pet have some type of identification on them. Extra collars and leashes are good to have.
Residents needing to dispose of trash, debris or garbage today, Monday, August 27th, may bring it to the Jefferson Parish Landfill, located at 5800 Hwy. 90, Waggaman. The Parish Landfill will be open until 6:00 p.m. today. The Jefferson Parish Landfill accepts garbage and trash from Jefferson Parish residents at no charge. The Parish Landfill does not accept discarded appliances or tires.

Mandatory Evacuations have been announced for residents of Lafitte, Crown Point, Barataria and Grand Isle.

Town of Jean Lafitte Mayor Tim Kerner and Jefferson Parish President John Young announce a Mandatory Evacuation for residents in Lafitte, Crown Point, and Barataria effective at 9:00 AM tomorrow, Monday, August 27, 2012.
Jefferson Parish Emergency Management will make available a Medical Special-Needs Hotline beginning at 9:00 AM tomorrow morning, Monday, August 27, 2012, for Jefferson Parish citizens with special medical needs requiring assistance with self-evacuation.
The number to call for special needs patients only is 504-349-5642.
The hotline is provided to assist with planning, transportation, and shelter with medical assistance for those citizens with special medical requirements who choose to evacuate.
Medical Special-Needs patients include citizens who are:
• Bedridden
• Ventilator Dependent
• Dialysis
• One caretaker is permitted to travel and stay with the special needs evacuee in a designated facility/shelter

The Jefferson Parish Emergency Operations Center is partially activated at this time. The EOC is expected to be fully activated at noon tomorrow, Monday, August 27, 2012.
Grand Isle Mayor David Camardelle has issued a mandatory evacuation for campers and tourists, effective immediately. Mayor Camardelle is ordering a mandatory evacuation for residents of Grand Isle effective 9:00am, tomorrow, Monday, August 27, 2012. A temporary shelter is in place for Grand Isle evacuees at the La Fourche Parish Recreation Center, 241 Recreation Drive, Raceland, Louisiana.
The Town of Jean Lafitte Mayor Tim Kerner has declared a Voluntary Evacuation for Lafitte, Crown Point, and Barataria, effective 9:00am, tomorrow, Monday, August 27, 2012. A temporary shelter will be opened at that time at the Terrytown Gym, 641 Heritage Avenue, Terrytown.
At this time, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has suspended toll collections at the Crescent City Connection bridge and the bridge at Hwy 1 in Leeville.
All residents of Unincorporated Jefferson Parish and the Town of Jean Lafitte should be advised, garbage and recycling service will take place tomorrow, Monday, August 27. We ask all residents bring garbage cans and recycling bins to a secure location after collection.
Garbage and recycling collection services are CANCELLED for Tuesday, August 28 and Wednesday, August 29. All four Parish Trash Drop-Off Sites and the Jefferson Parish Landfill will be closed on Tuesday, August 28 and Wednesday, August 29. The Parish Drop-Off Sites will be closed on Monday, as usual.
There will be no garbage or trash pick-up on Wednesday, August 29, 2012, for residents and businesses in Westwego. Residents are asked not to put out garbage or trash until further notice.
The Jefferson Parish Council Meeting scheduled for 10:00 am, Wednesday, August 29, 2012, is CANCELLED at this time. The meeting is tentatively rescheduled for 10:00 am, Wednesday, September, 5, 2012.
Jefferson Parish employees are to report to work for their regular schedules Monday morning. Should circumstances dictate, employees will be advised of any changes.
The Jefferson Parish School System reports Grand Isle School will be closed Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, as well as Leo Kerner Elementary School, Fisher Middle School and Fisher High School in Lafitte.
Later Sunday, Jefferson Parish announced that all public schools will be closed Monday through Wednesday, as will Jefferson Parish Catholic Schools
