Cop expected to admit he wrongly killed a man

NOPD officer Joshua Colclough expected to enter guilty plea to a negligent homicide charge today for shooting and killing Wendell Allen during a drug raid.

Allen's family says he was not armed and standing at the top of a flight of stairs when Colclough fired a single bullet at him.

WWL TV Legal Analyst Chick Foret says, "The evidence obviously has led the NOPD investigators and the D.A.'s office to a negligent homicide plea."

Colclough could spend five years in prison.

"It certainly give confidence that now we know that at Tulane and Broad, through the D.A.'s office and Leon Cannizzaro, these types of cases will be prosecuted," Foret said.

"It is critical that this Department and this community understand what happened that night on Prentiss Avenue. A complete and thorough criminal investigation is a vital part of that process of understanding, and we cannot take any action which could possibly put a criminal investigation in jeopardy," Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas said after the shooting.
