Report: Plea deal for NOPD officer in shooting death

An NOPD officer facing charges in the shooting death of an unarmed man in Gentilly has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors, according to WWL-TV.

Officer Joshua Colclough is expected to enter a guilty plea to charges of negligent homicide on Wednesday.

Investigators say the shooting happened as Colclough and other officers were executing a search warrant on a home in Gentilly on March 7 of this year.

20-year-old Wendell Allen was killed by a single gunshot to the chest from ColClough's service pistol.  Allen was not armed at the time of the shooting.

Colclough faces a maximum of five years in prison on the negligent homicide charge.

The officer's sentencing date is August 29.

Since the time of the shooting, the NOPD has offered few details about how the shooting happened inside the home on Prentiss Avenue.
