It's definitely a weekend for jazz lovers in the French Quarter as people celebrate the life of Louis Armstrong with the only festival dedicated in his honor.

The 12th annual Satchmo SummerFest, running August 3-5 in New Orleans, celebrates the life, legacy, and music of Armstrong at the Louisiana State Museum's Old U.S. Mint, with what organizers say is "A weekend full of fascinating seminars, traditional jazz, contemporary jazz, and brass band music from some of New Orleans' most talented musicians, exciting and diverse offerings from local restaurants, and a variety of special events."  Including a birthday party for the local legendary musician.

Marci Schramm, Executive Director of French Quarter Festivals Inc. says the live music is just fantastic, it's some of New Orleans' finest traditional jazz musicians.  It's also one of these rare occasions where you can come to a festival and see so much great traditional jazz."

But jazz won't be the only attraction, as there will be New Orleans restaurants serving up fabulous New Orleans cuisine and dishes that Louis Armstrong loved.  Schramm says It'll be a weekend of "New Orleans' great restaurants serving up really nice summer food, light food, cool food, decadent New Orleans food, snowballs, everything you could want."
