Obama loses support among 2008 first-time voters

A new poll from the LSU Reilly Center for Media and Public Affairs shows a lot of people who were first-time voters when they voted for Barack Obama in 2008 are thinking about sitting out this year's presidential election.

Four years ago, Barack Obama energized the electorate in a way that got a lot of people into the polls on election day.

"We had a historic election and an incredibly charismatic candidate in Barack Obama," said LSU pollster Kirby Goidel.  But in 2012, Goidel says it seems apathy has set in. It seems a lot of those first-time voters from 2008 aren't showing the same level of interest this election.

"Just a range of different measures, we find that they're less interested, they're paying less attention and they're less concerned about the outcome," said Goidel.

Goidel says most of them don't think President Obama delivered on his campaign promise of "hope and change."
