Cars stretched around the building and blocks down Veterans Blvd. at the Metairie Chick-fil-A today.

It came after former GOP presidential candidates Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum encouraged people to show their support for the company.  Huckabee dubbed the day "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day."

It all comes after president of Chick-fil-A made controversial comments opposing gay marriage.

Pro-gay rights groups called for a boycott of the company.  They have also encouraged gay couples to go to the fast food restaurant Friday and engage in public kissing.

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation calls it "National Same-Sex Kiss Day."

People waiting in line today told WWL First News:

"I am here to support the president of the company, that he can make statement of his beliefs."

"I think that it awful that Chick-Fil-A is getting chastised for their beliefs."

"I waited in line 20 minutes, and I could wait several hours if it meant supporting a company that shares beliefs that I do."

"I am not anti-gay.  I just feel if you are, that you have the right to say it, and it you are not you have the right to say that too."
