Settlement talks with suspended NFL players, league end with no resolution

A court-ordered settlement conference Monday in the lawsuit some suspended NFL players filed against the league has ended with no resolution.
It means there will be a hearing Thursday for Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma's request for a temporary restraining order. He's fighting a season-long suspension for his alleged role in the Saints so-called "bounty" program.
Vilma told reporters outside the federal courthouse in downtown New Orleans that if the suspension is allowed to stand, it will cause "irreparable" damage to his career, and he said the allegations in the published results of the NFL's investigation into the so-called bounty program are "false."
Defensive end Will Smith is fighting a four game suspension. Also included in the NFLPA's lawsuit against the league are former Saints Anthony Hargrove, now with the Green Bay Packers, and Scott Fujita, now with the Cleveland Browns.
