Police arrested Mayor Mitch Landrieu's 19-year-old son Benjamin early this morning on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
The Orleans Parish Prison website shows that 19-year-old Benjamin Landrieu was booked at 6:40 a.m. on the DWI charge as well as charges of reckless operation of a vehicle and "driving on roadway laned for traffic."
The mayor says he went to the scene of the crash and his son's DWI arrest "as a father" and told cops," 'You have to follow proper protocol.' "
Watch Landrieu talking about his son's arrest:
Landrieu insisted, "I expect that the law is going to be followed."
Mayor Landrieu released the following statement this morning: "I love my son. There will be legal consequences for his actions in the court room. And there will be family discussions in our living room. I have asked that all protocol be followed, and he will be treated just as any other citizen. We ask that you respect our family's privacy during this difficult time."
The NOPD responded to an accident on Broadway at 2:30 this morning near Tulane University.
