State Wildlife & Fisheries officials have released proposed new zones and dates for duck hunting in Louisiana this fall and winter.
And, WWL's outdoor expert Don Dubuc says there's some controversy over the new proposals.
Coastal Zone duck hunts would run from November 10th through December 2nd, and from December 15th through January 20th.
The east zone will be open November 17th through the 25th and again from December 8th through January 27th.
And, Larry Reynolds, Waterfowl Program Manager for LDWF, says a third duck hunting zone has been added this year.
"It's in northwest Louisiana. It's now called the West Zone and the season there is November 10th through December 9th, and then reopening on December 22nd through January 20th."
Reynolds encourages duck hunters to check out the proposed times at www.wlf.louisiana.gov.
The State Wildlife Commission will meet in August, to vote approval of the new dates.
In the meantime, Reynolds says he'd like to hear the public's opinions of the new zones and dates.
"What I would like hunters to do is look at our proposals and shoot me an e-mail...even if the e-mail says 'Looks great, Larry...run with it,' or if it says 'Are you out of your mind?' send it to me."
