Tourists flocked to New Orleans for the 4th

The 4th of July holiday was just what New Orleans tourism officials wanted and expected.

The city proved to be just as popular as predicted for Independence Day festivities.

WWL First News found the CBD was full of folks enjoying the Crescent City on the nation's birthday.

Why did they come to New Orleans?

The reasons were as varied as the attractions the city offers, and a lot them are familiar.

"Because it's a good time...a lot of fun, a lot of drinking."

"It's fun and vibrant."

"I love the shopping down in the French Quarter. I love the Farmers' Market...just the whole atmosphere, And the food? Oh my goodness."

"We like the food and the drink."

"Great city, great music."

"Going to hit the clubs, listen to nice jazz."

And for some, it's reliable.

"You can depend on it not to change, you know? It stays the same."

And, just what is it that stays the same?

"It's always fun."

"It's a change of pace, a different atmosphere. It's just a great place to come to have fun and relax."

Unfortunately, the heat stays the same too. But even that didn't sway them.

"It's a little muggy and hot," he said. "But I got two drinks in my hand, so it's a good time.

Of course, many planned to include the fireworks over the Mississippi as part of their visit.

In all, the 4th of July provided a great lead-in to the beginning of today's tourist bonanza that is Essence Fest.
