Grab the leash because it's the Friday after Father's Day, the day that's been designated as Take Your Dog to Work Day for the last 13 years in the U.S.
"First celebrated in 1999, Pet Sitters International's Take Your Dog To Work Day was created to celebrate the great companions dogs make and to encourage their adoption from humane societies, animal shelters and breed rescue clubs," the organization says. "This annual event asks pet lovers to celebrate the human-canine bond and promote pet adoption by encouraging their employers to support TYDTW Day. Employers are encouraged to open their workplace to employees' four-legged friends on this one special day."
I talked to workers in downtown New Orleans about how they feel about dogs in the workplace, and although most of the people really thought it was a good idea, there were a few that described themselves as "old-fashioned" and didn't think that it is an appropriate idea.
One worker told me, "My dad actually takes a dog to work with him every day." How does it work out? "It works out pretty well. You got to do a trial run when other pets come around to see if the dogs get along. If they don't get along they would set up certain days when certain dogs can come and certain dogs couldn't"
But another gentleman in the CBD told me, "I don't think I would be too keen on dogs walking around the office. Especially...in the investment business and dogs barking in the background is not good." And all that dog hair on expensive suits could be a problem too.
