Jefferson Sheriff's dispatcher fired amid shoplifting charge

A Jefferson Parish 911 operator stole items from a Family Dollar store, sheriff's officials say, and is now out of a job.

According to the sheriff's office, the store manager reported the theft last week, and showed detectives a video of two females, one taking items off of store shelves and placing them in the other's purse.  The woman holding the purse was wearing a light blue Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office uniform shirt.

The sheriff's office says the detective determined the woman in the JPSO shirt was 21-year-old dispatcher Aariel Dorsey.  According to authorities, Dorsey admitted to being the woman in the video when confronted by detectives.

Investigators issued Dorsey a misdemeanor summons, and the sheriff's office fired her on the spot.  The other suspect, 26-year-old Pia Dorsey, was arrested and also received a misdemeanor summons.

Charges will be filed with the Jefferson Parish District Attorney's Office, according to the news release from the sheriff's office.
