Jindal and Obama administration at odds over vouchers
Dave Cohen Reporting
As lawsuits move through the system, the public debate rages on over Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal's school voucher plan.
The new law would send poor kids from failing public schools to private educators with taxpayer dollars.
"Our kids only have one chance to grow up and get a great eduction, we think the dollars should follow the child," Jindal said.
Obama Education Secretary Arne Duncan says taking fund away from public educators is not the answer.
"We have to have strong public schools, and anything that goes in the opposite direction is not something that I can support," Duncan told WWL First News.
The governor said, "We think parents know what is best for their children, not bureaucrats sitting in Washington DC."
The two big teachers' unions in Louisiana are suing to stop the vouchers at the same time the state is signing up students to receive the vouchers for the coming school year.
