Saints Assistant Coach Joe Vitt today said that quarterback Chase Daniel has a hairline fracture of the thumb on his right hand, and will take about two and a half weeks to heal up.
Vitt said that Daniel hit his thorowing hand on a helmet during practice "the other day."
In a press conference following the team's OTA's, Vitt said that Daniel should be ready to go next month when training camp begins.
"We can describe this as a sprain, but there is a hairline fracture," Vitt said.
The Assistant Coach said that surgery would not be required.
Other Saints were banged up during OTA's as well.
WWL Saints Sideline Reporter Kristian Garic learned after the press conference that defensive lineman Aikiem Hicks broke his hand in Mini-Camp, but is expected to be ready for training camp.
Also, DE Greg Romeus will be out for six to eight months, according to VItt, due to a torn ACL and MCL in his left knee.
In the Q&A with reporters following the final day of OTA's, Vitt was asked about how the staff is handling the absence of Head Coach Sean Payton.
"I think Sean would be very, very proud of his coaching staff," Vitt said. "I think Sean would be very, very proud of the job the support staff has done, from the trainers to the equipment men to our cinematographers. When Sean left here, there was one mandate: ‘Do your job,’ and these guys have done their job."
Vitt said that the squad is more than ready to crank up training camp.
"We’re not only excited about what took place and happened in the OTA’s, we’re really, really looking forward to getting to training camp. This might be the most talented football team since we’ve been here."
