Tangipahoa detectives say a teenager raped a woman in her 50's.  Today they announced they have the suspect in custody.

"Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports the arrest of Carl Smith (above), 17 year old black male of Roseland, LA on the charge of Aggravated Rape," spokeswoman Dawn Panepinto said in a news release.  "Detectives with the TPSO assisted the city of Roseland in investigating an aggravated rape where 17 year old Smith, raped a 54 year old female victim."

She said that the teenager sexually assaulted the victim at her home.

"Smith forced himself upon the female in her residence. "

Panepinto says the victim knew the suspect, but declined to explain how in an effort to protect the victim's identity.
