More men are seeking jobs in traditionally female careers than ever before, especially following the Great Recession. 

It's becoming much more likely than ever that your dental hygienist, nurse, retail salesperson or your child's elementary school teacher will be male.

The trend is more than 20 years old, but after so many men lost their jobs in 2008 as construction and manufacturing took a serious hit, (a time so difficult for men it's been dubbed the Mancession) men have shifted at a much quicker pace into "pink collar jobs" according to Census data analyzed by the New York Times. 

What will this mean for the salaries of these jobs? 

"If there are more people going into a field that increase the supply of workers in that field and that tends to lower the wage," says UNO Economist Janet Spyrer.

She says women have been entering higher-paying traditionally male careers for years, and many of them have seen salary decreases.

One of the big stories is guys heading into retail.  Spyrer says "I was amazed by how many men entered that workforce."

As for future salaries for teachers, dental hygienists, paralegals, she says the law of supply and demand will dictate.
