Parish President John Young says they've been conducting drills and research to "Prepare for the worst, and hope for the best." Young is urging residents to do the same, and says Jefferson Parish residents and business owners should not get complacent in the relatively calm years since Katrina and Gustav.
"Everyone needs to have their plans together," Young said. He noted that everyone needs to sign up for parish alerts, and said that businesses need to have reentry placards updated if the placard is two years old.
And, there's a lot going on at tonight's prep rally, scheduled from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Zephyr Stadium.
Young says every year without a storm since Katrina is another year to rebuild.
"We're much better protected, not just in Jefferson Parish but in the entire metro area in terms of U.S. Army Corps of Engineer projects that are coming to fruition."
