Fat Tuesday in Metairie

Mardi Gras in Jefferson Parish may be a little more subdued than it is in Orleans Parish, but it's a festive time nonetheless, with thousands and thousands turning out annually to see local parades.

Argus will celebrate its 40th anniversary on Mardi Gras Day according to Arthur Hardy's Mardi Gras Guide.

It's a 22 float parade with 500 riders.

One of those will be Blue Dog artist George Rodrigue, and according to the Guide and he'll be riding the Blue Dog float.

Argus King this year is Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand and Queen is Ashlee Marie Krantz.

Revelers on the route are excited about the final day of Carnival, with many expressing the same sentiment as one man I spoke with who said, "I love being with friends and family on Mardi Gras Day...that's the best part."

Many others mentioned the food, as people had campers, barbeques and ice chests ready to go for the festivities.

And the kids are ready to catch beads and more beads.
