Today it's the annual celebration at Kenner's Rivertown, along with the traditional meeting of Mardi Gras royalty from the Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club of New Orleans and the Krewe of Argus of Metairie.
Both organizations parade on Mardi Gras day before thousands of spectators.
They will be joined by Mayor Michael Yenni and members of the Kenner City Council to officially welcome the Carnival royalty to Kenner. "At about 11:50 we have a little street parade and we second line from the Exhibition Hall over to the stage," says Kenner Mayor Michael Yenni.
"We have a good time. It's a great meeting of the courts, Zulu and Argus," Yenni says. "It's a tradition that's been going on in the city of Kenner for a number of years of now. And we're so honored Zulu still comes to Kenner, and Argus of course, being our great Mardi Gras Day parade in Jefferson Parish."
The party starts at 10AM, with the popular band Groovy 7 taking the Rivertown stage at 11:00 and playing until 2:30.
The center of the activity is the parking lot across Williams Boulevard from the Rivertown Exhibition Center and the Kenner Mardi Gras Museum.
Kenner officials say local vendors will man booths selling food, refreshments and crafts during the Lundi Gras celebration.
Argus royalty for 2012 includes Sheriff Newell Normand, King Argus XXVlII, and his Queen, Ashlee Krantz. Zulu royalty is King, Elroy A. James and his Queen, Dr. Tanyanika Phillips.
