Tigers halt three-game losing streak with win over the Hogs

After a brutal stretch of games against three ranked teams, LSU finally found a team they can beat. Sophomore Ralston Turner had one of his best games of the season, scoring 16 points, as the Tigers beat Arkansas 71-65. The Razorbacks remain winless on the road this season.

Turner was one of four double-digit scorers for LSU. Junior center Justin Hamilton (above) had his third double-double of the season, with 13 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots. The Tigers had a season-high 12 blocks. Anthony Hickey and Eddie Ludwig each added 12 points.

LSU could have made this game much easier on itself, but they missed a dozen free throws and shot 63-percent from the free throw line.

LSU had a 35-31 at halftime lead. The Tigers got a good lift from their bench in the first 20 minutes. Reserve forward Eddie Ludwig of Metairie provided a spark with eight first-half points to lead the Tigers. Ludwig hit a three-pointer to give the Tigers a 31-20 lead, with 4:25 left in the 1st half. But Arkansas went on an 11-4 run, as the Tigers turned it over on their final two possessions of the half.

LSU regained its double-digit lead early in the 2nd half as the Tigers scored the first six points. Hickey had two fast-break layups and Hamilton had a put back on an offensive rebound. But Hickey picked up his third foul with 17:36 left, which put an end to LSU's momentum.

With about nine minutes ago, Arkansas cut the deficit to one-point with a three-pointer by Mardracus Wade. But that's as close as the Hogs would get. After that three-pointer by Wade, Arkansas would only made one field goal during a stretch that lasted about five minutes and 30 seconds.

That allowed LSU to push its lead up to seven points with about four minutes left and they held on for a six-point win.

Arkansas ended up shooting 40% from the field and just 3-of-13 from 3-point territory.

LSU shot 41% and 2-of-13 from 3-point territory. But it was good enough to get the Tigers their third SEC win of the year. That matches their conference win total from last season.

The Bayou Bengals are 3-and-5 in the league, 13-and-9 overall. LSU is at Vanderbilt on Wednesday night, who lost to 11th ranked Florida 73-65 in overtime.
