Kristian: Belichick and Payton are practically clones
Krisitan Garic / Kristian@wwl.com Reporting
New England Patriots Coach Bill Belichick has three Super Bowl rings as a head coach. Saints Coach Sean Payton has one. I'm not comparing the success of the Saints to that of the Patriots. New England is undoubtedly more accomplished. However, there are ton of similarities between the two head coaches and the players. Belichick constantly deflects the praise for the success in New England during his Super Bowl news conferences. He's constantly referring to the "team atmosphere." He's hesitant to give to much information about the game to the media, and would prefer not to speak about injured players.
Sean Payton has a similar approach, having studied the success of the Pats over the years. I found myself in a Patriots new conference saying to myself, "Gosh, if this doesn't sound familiar."
Belichick was saying basically carbon copy answers, much like Payton did two years ago in Miami. If I closed my eyes, I could almost envision Payton at the podium. The voice is different, but the message is the same between the two head coaches. Heck, their mannerisms are similar, and the posture at the podium is almost identical.
Like Belichick or not, he's the best coach in the NFL. Payton isn't far behind, but he's got some jewelry and trophies to catch up on to be in the same class as Belichick.
